Mel Gibson's 'The Resurrection of the Christ' Wraps Filming After Two Decades of Anticipation

More than 20 years after the release of The Passion of the Christ, filmmaker Mel Gibson has officially completed production on The Resurrection of the Christ, a highly anticipated biblical epic that will continue the story of Jesus Christ following the crucifixion and resurrection.

Lionsgate and Icon Productions announced that filming has wrapped on the ambitious project, which has been expanded into a two-part film series. According to the studio, The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2027, with Part Two following on May 25, 2028.

The original The Passion of the Christ became one of the most successful faith-based films in history, earning more than $600 million worldwide and sparking global conversations about faith, sacrifice, and the life of Jesus Christ.
